hi there, thought id share something with you all. ive been struggling for 3 years to try get a house exchange,i was on every single house exchange website you could ever imagine including gumtree. i think i was just unlucky cos i was defo not in a bad area i was in a decent area in leith edinburgh.+there was nothing wrong with my property.(needed new carpets thats all!)
there is alot of judgmental people out there who expect to move from where ever they are and walk into a palace. this is not the case! you do your house up to your own taste anywyas when you move so ill never understand why people think like this. following lack of success i decided to look up private lets,ok their not the most secure of tenancys but at least you get what you want,where you want.i had no choice but to do just that.and ive never looked back since. so if your like me,totally hated where you were but cant get a move etc try some private lets, it doesnt do any harm!i was nervous giving up a secure tenancy as ive been in secure tenancy for 17 years!but the way i see it is,if you really want something so bad-you gotta sacrifice something in order to get what you need/want and i did just that. but dont have so many high expectations of house exchanging,it wont get you anywhere!im glad i did what i did cos im in a beautiful home in a very well respected area and my kids love it! so good luck to all you home swappers out there i hope you find what your looking for-i did,but i just had to make 1 sacrifice and it was worth it.
