Health, Safety, Security & Environment Manager
Hays have been approached by a client of ours to assist them with the recruitment of a Health, Safety, Security & Environment Manager based in their Edinburgh Office. It is essential that the successful candidate has construction experience as this is probably the most important aspect of H&S experience the individual needs to have as the client is currently in the construction phase with a huge new build project - therefore if you do not have experience in the construction sector, please do not apply as your application will be rejected.
The client is specifically looking for:-
- Degree educated preferred but not essential
- Ready to take the step to Manager level or indeed newly in manager level
- Construction experience
- Environmental experience
I. Job Summary:
Heath, Safety & Environment
Responsible for support the worldwide Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) Team with the lead responsibility for a set of assigned assets (UK and the Netherlands).
Responsible for support the development and implementation of the company-wide Heath Safety and Environment strategy.
Responsible for tracking regulatory change and determining impact on company assigned assets.
Participation in annual operating reviews in other regions as required.
Provision of HSSE support for planned and forced outages in the Region.
II. Job Dimension
A. Supervision Received:
Reports directly to and receives strategic direction and functional supervision from the Corporate Director, HSSE.
Strong dotted line reporting to the UKNL Director of Generation and the UK O&M Director.
B. Supervision Exercised:
Provides strategic direction and functional support to site HS&E personnel at all the client's locations within the UK Region.
C. Main Contacts:
Maintains direct working relationships with Plant Managers, Construction Project Management and O&E Management to assure a mutual understanding of health, safety & environmental requirements that affect the Region.
Maintains direct working relationships with Plant and Project teams responsible for all health, safety & environmental programs.
Liaise with governmental agencies, as required by Director of HSSE to assure a thorough understanding of agency policies and procedures related to health, safety & environmental.
Establishes and maintains a working relationship with Direct report Director, Internal Audits in support of HSSE audit program.
D. Special Position Requirements:
Position requires a residency (approximately one month) at Corporate Headquarters in USA.

IV. Qualifications:
Education: Educated to degree level in Safety, Occupational/Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering / Management or related science / engineering area.
Certificates or Licenses: HS&E certificates recognised by institutions such as the American Society of Safety Engineers, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the Health & Safety Executive.
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Advanced oral and written communication
Project Management
Contract Management
Experience:
Extensive experience of ten (10) or more years in the health, safety and environmental field preferably in the construction sector.
Travel:
Travel within the UKNL Region to sites and project offices approximately 40% of time; occasional international travel to support other regions and HSSE programs as required.
Languages:
Second language a plus but not essential
