Hi, I am seeking your assistance as a Uniting Church Minister living in Australia. (I was brought up in the Methodist Church, which joined with the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches in 1977 to form the Uniting Church in Australia.) My wife Lynne, 16 year old son John and myself are flying to the UK for the first time on 14th November this year for a month. The main purpose of our visit is to see our eldest daughter Emma who is studying at University in England on a semester exchange program, but we would also like to take the opportunity to see various parts of the UK and to be spiritually refreshed as we do so. No specific itinerary has been made yet. Not being sure of distances and travel times we just have some vague ideas of roaming around somehow, though we would like to visit Scotland. I was wondering if you could provide accommodation for Lynne, John and myself for 1 night during our UK visit at a complimentary or substantially reduced charge. We are not expecting anything luxurious, just something basic - a simple bed to lie down on at night is all we need. No meals would be required, as we plan to prepare our own, such as sandwiches, and we would clean before we departed. In fact we we will be willing to take on extra cleaning duties etc in return for accommodation. We have just realised how expensive our trip to the UK will be as we have started to look at hotel and backpacker hostel costs. Due to the poor exchange rate, the Australian dollar is only worth about half as much in the UK. This means that accommodation etc will be twice as expensive as it is in Australia.
