Ecclefechan is small village in Dumfries and Galloway that’s rich in history. The birthplace of Thomas Carlyle, the village was once a major stopping point for stagecoaches from Glasgow. Today the wide streets are altogether more tranquil, making it the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life.

About Ecclefechan
Situated in the heart of the Mein Water Valley, Ecclefechan lies about 5 miles north of Annan and less than 10 miles northwest of the English border. There’s a real feeling of peace here and the village has many historic buildings. The flat top of the large Roman Fort of Brunswick dominates the horizon.

Local Amenities
Ecclefechan boasts many of the amenities you’d expect to find in a traditional village including two local shops (one of which is also the village Post Office), a hairdresser, Doctor’s surgery and a primary school. Due to its history, the village also has three hotels.

Transport
The village is within easy reach of the A74 (M), with junction J19 lying to the northwest of Ecclefechan and good access from exits from both the north and south.
